We wanted to go for a brunch this Friday. We were looking for a place close to our home. As, Zubarah Hotel is located in the center of the city, it was very close to our place. So we decided to give it a try. It was our first time there. Once we reached we were told that Friday brunch is served at two restaurants; Caminito and Baraha. Upon inquiring, Mr. Ahmed was kind enough to show us around. He gave us a mini tour of both the restaurants. He also showed us other facilities of the hotel like the spa and the business centre.
After having a look, we decided to to dine at Baraha, as there wasn’t wide variety to choose from at Caminito. Also, Caminito was literally empty. Apparently, it is more lively in the evenings.
Baraha on the other hand was very crowded. The restaurant is divided into two sections; smoking and non-smoking. Also, there is a small kids section which includes a play area and a couple of food items, like Pasta and Potato wedges for kids.
Every Friday, seafood buffet is offered. The buffet, not very lavish though, included salads, appetizers, main courses, live Pasta and Crepe station, bread and cheese selection, fresh fruits and desserts.
There was a huge variety of salads. Ranging from Octopus Salad to Fattoush, they had it all. All the salads were fresh and tasted great too.
The variety of Main Courses wasn’t ample. A seafood paella, a couple of fish varieties and a beef dish was all that they had. The paella was just okay while all the fish items tasted good especially the Fish Hara and the Grilled Fish. But we had one complaint about it, firstly upon asking about the ‘types’ of the fish used, we didn’t get a satisfactory answer. The staff wasn’t aware of the name of the fish being cooked. Also, we found a few bones in the fish!
Coming to the pasta station, there weren’t many options of pasta types to choose from. Well only two of them, precisely. The selection of toppings was fine though. We had the white sauce pasta and it tasted good.
Last and definitely the least were the desserts. Not much variety of desserts. And the one’s which they had weren’t very appealing. Desserts such as Masala Cake and Chocolate were disappointing while Creme Caramel and Um Ali were just average.
We also tried the Chocolate Crepe. It was well balanced and cooked to perfection.
Overall we would say that our experience was good. Food quality and quantity were a bit of concern but the hospitality was impeccable. Our server, Ms. Grace was very welcoming and accommodating. Also, we enjoyed all this at a charge of Qr. 100 per person, only!
